Museum of Political History of Russia in St Petersburg, Russia is the successor of Revolution Museum founded in 1919. It was the first historical and political museum of post-revolutionary Russia. Originally the museum was situated in the halls of Winter Palace. Only in the middle of the 20th century the museum got its own buildings: two former noble mansions. One of them belonged to Matilda Kshesinskaya who was Prima-ballerina of Mariinsky Theatre. This mansion was a witness of important historical events. In March-July 1917 it housed Bolsheviks’ revolutionary headquarters. The second mansion was built for Baron Brant who was the timber merchant. In 1955-57 these two mansions were combined for a museum complex.
