St. Isaac of Dalmatia was chosen to be the patron saint of this cathedral because his birthday is on the same day with the birthday of Peter the Great on the ninth of June. It is the third biggest cupola cathedral in the world after St. Peter’s one in Rome and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The building weighs 300 000 tons and is 101.5 m high, 111.2 m long and 97.6 m wide. Also it is the second tallest building in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, after the spire of St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral.
