SPB metro is more than a means of transport. It is a history and mood of the city, fates of its citizens. It is not by chance that the motto of SPB metro is “Unite the city, connect people”.
SPB metro was opened during the Soviet times in 1955. Nowadays it consists of five lines that include sixty-seven metro stations. Annually its trains carry 700 million people. Thanks to this fact it is in the top 20 of the most busiest metros in the world.
On top of this it is considered to be the deepest metro in the world: sixty metro stations are deep ones.
Each line has its own color. The first line that was open is the red one. It is also the longest line of SPB metro – 30 kilometers long.
Almost the half of the stations were planned to be built and decorated at Stalin era. They are different from the rest with its solemn and magnific decoration.
During last ten years about ten metro stations were opened. In the nearest future one more line (Line 6) with new stations will be open.
