City Tour on Foot is one of the best ways to see Saint-Petersburg, Russia, while walking through the center of it. Our professional guide will tell you about history, architecture and main sights of the city.
While walking along the main street of St. Petersburg – Nevskiy Prospekt – you will pass Stroganov Palace that is now a subsidiary of Russian Museum, Kazan Cathedral that was built to commemorate the victory of Russia in the war with Napoleon, Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard) – the most famous shop in our city. Finally, you will get to Anichkov Bridge. It is the most impressive bridge we have here. There are four equestrian statues on four corners of the bridge made by an Italian sculptor Klodt. The embankment of Fontanka River is 5-minute walk from there. Children usually love seeing the tiny statue of a little bird called “Chizhyk-Pyzhyk” while going along the embankment. This place is a collection of St. Petersburg places of interest. It is easy and quick to get from there to such sights as Church on the Spilt Blood, Mikhailovskiy (Engineering) Castle, Michael’s Palace and garden.
Of course, you will never miss the main square – Palace Square. It is called this way because famous Winter Palace – the residence of Elizabeth – is located on it. Also on this square there are two more important sights of Saint-Petersburg – Alexander Column and Triamphul Arch.
If you would like to continue your City Tour on foot you will have to cross the main river here – Neva River – and to get to Basil (Vasilyevskiy) Island. Point of Basil Island is a perfect place to take panoramic photos of Winter Palace and Palace Embankment. From there we would like you to move to the second biggest island of Saint-Petersburg, Russia – Petrogradskiy one. Then you are going to pass the place from where the city began – St. Peter and Paul’s Fortress. Not far from it you will see Summer Cottage of Peter the Great. It is the first construction in this area. The cottage was built by soldiers for Peter for living within three days. On the way back to Winter Palace with your St.Petersburg guide you will have a look at “Aurora” battle ship, Mars Field and will have a nice walk around Summer Garden.
