The first visitors came to the museum in 2011 though the official opening took place on June 8, 2012. About 100 specialists were making this model of Russia for 5 years.
It shows the everyday life of our country via small episodes of different kinds of activities – work, having rest, sport, military service, going to dacha, travelling and others.
The transportation is presented in cars, lorries, trucks, trams, buses, trains, examples of agricaltural, building and military equipment. The visitors have the opportunity to initiate the movements on the model using the interactive buttons set on the perimeter of it. Every 13 minutes the night and the day exchange above the model gradually. For the first time ever as the light source more than 800 000 LEDs of different colors were used to light the model up evenly without making any shadows. Cars and buses run as real ones making stops at traffic lights and at the bus stops, changing the speed also. The electricity comes from below the model and all the objects are supplied with it remotely. This way of transportation movements was worked out and used for the first time in the world.
In 2016 for 7 months the museum’s specialists were working over the model fragment of 40 square meters presenting Russia at the World Model that was open in New York in April 2017. They made “Russia in Winter” and used 45 kilos of special crystals to cover small trees with sparkling snow.

- Grand Model of Russia is the biggest model of our country.
- It takes the train 18 minutes to go from Saint-Petersburg to Vladivostok on this model.
- The magnetic field is used to make the grass grow vertically.
- More than 130 camouflaged hatches are used to offer the permanent access to any point of the model for running the service.
